What to Pack for the Camino de Santiago

Keep the pack simple

A lighter pack is usually easier to carry day after day. Many pilgrims use ten percent of body weight as a rough upper guide, but personal needs vary.

Core packing list

  1. Broken-in walking shoes or trail runners
  2. Two lightweight sets of walking clothes
  3. Rain jacket or poncho
  4. Warm layer for mornings and evenings
  5. Sleeping bag or liner suited to the season
  6. Refillable water bottle
  7. Basic first-aid and blister-care supplies
  8. Pilgrim credential, identification, and payment cards

Items to reconsider

Duplicate clothing, full-size toiletries, heavy towels, and too many electronic devices quickly add weight. Most common supplies can be replaced in larger towns.

Test before departure

Walk several training days with the packed bag. Adjust it based on comfort and seek professional advice for personal health needs. This list reflects general community experience, not a guarantee for every pilgrim or season.
